ABOUT ABOUT

Campers meet at the Friends of Black Rock-High Rock's Visitor Center at 320 Main Street before carpooling to Fly Ranch. RVs are welcome, but it is dry camping.

Friends of Black Rock-High Rock is having a fun Campout at Fly Ranch in partnership with Burning Man Project where we'll join the Baba Yaga crew to winterize the Hut, interact with presenters on the geology of the area and hot springs, and enjoy Dutch Oven Desserts as the seasons turn at Fly Ranch.

Friday will have camp setup, an artwalk to enjoy the art installations on the property, a Drifter Potluck dinner, and a Campfire Circle after dinner. Saturday morning, we'll provide coffee service, and then join the Baba Yaga crew to help them winterize the Hut. In the afternoon, Dr. Cathy Busby and Glenn Melosh will present Geology of the Black Rock Desert and Getting Deep into Hot Water at the Fly Geyser, followed by free time for sunset photographs of the Fly Geyser or to learn how to bake desserts in Dutch Ovens at camp. Dinner will be an Autumn BBQ, followed by soaking and another Campire Circle. Sunday morning will have a complimentry hot breakfast and a chance to enjoy the morning as we break camp.

We increasingly spend time in front of screens and on our phones and we’re interested in enjoying the property without distractions. Let’s connect with the land, explore, and be in the moment with one another. Let’s experience the land in real time together. For our events, we ask you to keep your cameras and phones put away when you come onto the property except for the photography-related blocks.

Tents are available upon request, but we encourage people to bring their own camping setup (and recommend a heavy duty tarp under tents). Composting toilets are available on the property. For more information about the property and Burning Man’s Fly Ranch Project, visit: https://flyranch.burningman.org. This campout will occur rain or shine, so please pack accordingly. Please wear pants and closed-toes shoes while hiking around the property. Please do not bring Dogs, weapons, fireworks, or amplified music onto the property.

In Gerlach, there is a Gas Station, Motel, Bruno's Country Club (restaurant and bar), the Miner's Club (cafe and bar), and Joe's Gerlach Club. Empire Store is 6 miles to the South of Gerlach, and has some convenience store amenities and camping supplies. The Friends of Black Rock-High Rock Visitor Center also has some drinks, snacks, emergency supplies, and educational material for sale.

Both Burning Man Project and Friends of Black Rock-High Rock are nonprofit organizations. Your donations enable us to continue to offer walking visits and help fulfill our nonprofit missions.

Groups will meet at the time indicated on your ticket at the Friends of Black Rock-High Rock's Visitor Center Store at 320 Main Street before carpooling to Fly Ranch. For more directions, visit the "Get There" tab.
